WordPress 4.7 Release Date & What To Expect
In just a couple of days, popular content management system and blogging platform WordPress is going to release it’s much anticipated WordPress 4.7 model and with more than 500 new components being introduced with the new model, there is plenty to talk and be excited about. In this blog, I will be sharing with you some of the great features you can expect to see and use with the new WordPress 4.7 when it’s officially launched in December 6th 2016.
NB::The newly introduced features covered in this blog range from enhanced functionality tools to aesthetically pleasing features.
New Default Theme (Twenty Seventeen)
The new WordPress 4.7 model, just like previous versions, will feature a new default theme. Unlike the previous themes though, the new theme, dubbed Twenty Seventeen, has a number of useful features that previous themes don’t have. These features include a starter content that allows new WordPress users to setup their WordPress powered websites with ease, animated transitions, dummy content for newbies, an expanding custom header image that also includes videos, more dynamic and graphic elements. One feature that really stands out with the new WordPress 4.7 model is it’s new workflow tools that make editing content and sites seamless. For more on Twenty Seventeen and it’s features click here.
User Admin Languages For Controlled Users
With the current version of WordPress, administrators can only choose one language for their platform regardless of how many users access the platform. With this in mind, users who choose to interact or use the platform created by the admin have to use the language set out by him. This can prove challenging especially if there is a member in the team that do not understand a certain language for example English. In such a scenario, helping someone use the platform tends to be a huge challenge due to language barrier. Luckily, the WordPress 4.7 offers a solution to this as it allows one to switch the admin language. One thing to note is that you will still have to install the languages for you to enjoy these services.
Improved Theme & Site Setup
Another great reason to be happy about the new WordPress 4.7 model is it’s new theme and site setup flow. Unlike previous versions, the 4.7 model features a new setup that makes the whole interaction process with your website much easier. For instance, you can now easily find the theme that best suits your need by simply using Theme customizer. In addition, you will be able to see or view all your installed themes with ease thanks to it’s improved theme and site setup flow.
New Preview Function For PDF Documents (Attachments)
If you were to upload a PDF file on any WordPress model currently in the market, you will only see an icon of the PDF file that you have just uploaded. This tends to irritate some people and as such, they choose to install certain plugins. If you happen to dislike this particular aspect, you will not have to install any new plugin again because the new model, WordPress 4.7, offers a perfect Solution to this. With the 4.7 model, you will be able to see a thumbnail preview of the PDF file once you upload it to your media library. In addition, there will also be a thumbnail preview on the attachment page of any PDF file.
There are also many improvements from the developers’ perspective with the new WordPress 4.7. These improvements include custom bulk actions that allow developers to add their own customized bulk actions when listing tables on a number of admin screens. Another feature developers can exploit with the new WordPress 4.7 model is the array utility functions. Unlike previous models, developers should find it easy working with arrays thanks to the introduction of two utility functions, the wp_list_sort() and WP_List_Util. The first function allows developers to sort a list of objects by simply using an attribute of the object they are seeking. The other one on the other hand is officially the central point of all things utility management.
Other than customized bulk actions and utility functions, developer can also experiment with a variety of CSS themes as the new model allows custom-built CSS themes. One thing to note with custom-built themes and the new WordPress model is that the custom CSS used has to be similar to the theme previewed by the user.
There you have it, everything you need to know about the new WordPress 4.7 version. For those who simply can’t for it to be released come 6th December you could opt for the model’s Beta version (of which they are three) which you can easily access by visiting their website, WordPress.org.
